(Albany, NY - March 13, 2009) - Plans to build a new Troop G Headquarters for the New York State Police continue to move forward. As a result of major deficiencies and the outdated state of the current facility built in Loudonville in 1957, the State Police initiated relocation plans in January of 2003. Marine Detail

Marine DetailThe State Police maintains boat patrols in Troops B, D, E, F, G, K, L and T. Troopers assigned to marine duties patrol waterways throughout the state from early spring to late fall, enforcing the Navigation Law, Canal Rules & Regulations and Environmental Conservation Laws, assisting boaters in distress, providing search and rescue services and water security at regattas, hydroplane races and other water-related events.

During the boating season, Troop B patrolled the St. Lawrence River, Lake Champlain and other smaller lakes in the Adirondacks, while Troop D provided two patrols on the St. Lawrence River at Alexandria Bay, a heavily used recreational and commercial waterway. Troops B and D enhanced security on the state’s border by providing additional patrols on the St. Lawrence, working closely with the United States Coast Guard, Border Patrol and Customs officials.

Elsewhere, Troop E patrolled portions of Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes, Troops F and K covered the Hudson River, and Troop G deployed boats on Lake George, Saratoga Lake and the Great Sacandaga Lake. Troop L patrolled areas of Long Island Sound around Fishers Island. Troop T deployed four boats along the 525- mile state Canal System that includes the Mohawk, Hudson, Oswego, Seneca, Genesee and Niagara Rivers, as well as Oneida, Onondaga, Cross, Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. Troop T continued to use personal watercraft (PWCs), popularly known as jet skis, for specialized and general patrol duties, and for specialized education and enforcement efforts.
